Hair Loss Turned Into Hair Lessons
How I built Psha Labs
I’m Reema Shah, Founder and CEO of Psha Labs. My professional journey began in public accounting, far removed from the world of hair care. Growing up, I had thick, healthy hair that required little maintenance - so I never gave it much thought. But in my twenties, everything changed. Stress from work and life, coupled with my first encounter with Covid-19, triggered autoimmune issues that led to a diagnosis of Alopecia Areata, a form of patchy hair loss. Within a few months, I had lost a quarter of my hair.
Desperate for a solution, I dove headfirst into research. I spent thousands of dollars on countless products and consulting with experts, but every promising lead ended in disappointment. Most products were either designed for older men or had adverse side effects or simply did not work, leaving me feeling overlooked and underserved. All the joys of indulging in self-care were replaced with feelings of desperation and anxiety.

I was led down a path of holistic research. Flashbacks of my mom massaging coconut oil into my scalp resurfaced, and then I had an idea. I delved deep into my Indian heritage, exploring ancient beauty traditions that emphasized natural ingredients, self care, and holistic well-being. I combined this knowledge with modern science, working with experts to craft unique formulations that harmonized natural ingredients with cutting-edge actives. After two years of meticulous research and collaboration, Psha Labs was born. For me, Psha is more than just a brand – it's a movement. I want to de-stigmatize hair loss as man’s issue. Many women struggle with hair loss whether it’s from Alopecia, stress, post-partum or aging. I want to normalize the hair struggles we face, celebrate our stories, and empower women with choices that bring joy and beauty to their hair care routine.
When I think back at my Alopecia Areata journey, I am not resentful of the experience. It taught me patience, acceptance, and the value of embracing life's uncertainties. Most importantly, it redefined my understanding of beauty and self-worth. I want to empower others suffering from hair loss to embrace your unique journey and know you are not alone.
